Catholic Diocese of Murang’a Launches Initiative to Plant 600,000 Trees for Environmental Conservation

Murang’a, Kenya—The Catholic Diocese of Murang’a has initiated a project to plant 600,000 trees across its churches to coincide with the Diocesan Environment Month.

According to Kenya News Agency, who spoke during the Annual Presbyterian Assembly in Murang’a, the initiative aims to mitigate the unpredictable climatic conditions that have been observed in recent years.

Wainaina emphasized the essential role trees play in environmental conservation, from improving air quality to preventing flooding and excessive heat. He noted that the 600,000 trees would be planted in all churches under the local deanery’s supervision in both Kirinyaga and Murang’a counties. The initiative will engage all 54 parishes in these counties to contribute to environmental conservation efforts.

Bishop Wainaina also took the opportunity to call upon all Kenyans to take part in the tree-planting endeavor, especially given the current rainy season. He encouraged people to grow more trees collectively to ensure the country’s environmental preservation.

Wainaina further challenged stakeholders in environmental matters, both within Kenya and globally, to propose innovative solutions for environmental conservation. This call to action seeks to address the growing concerns related to environmental degradation.
