RIYADH: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia has conveyed his country’s stance on the situation in Gaza during an urgent meeting with leaders of the Islamic world in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The meeting focused on the ongoing crisis in the occupied Palestinian territory.

According to Somali National News Agency, President Mohamud expressed Somalia’s unwavering support for the freedom and statehood of Palestine, adding the nation’s voice to the calls for an end to the violence and ethnic cleansing in Gaza. He emphasized that the events in Gaza contradict human conscience and international laws, advocating for a united decision to establish a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. This, he stated, is vital to preventing further unrest in the region. Despite Somalia’s own challenges with terrorism, the President reaffirmed the Somali people’s commitment to supporting Palestine and commended Saudi Arabia for organizing the meeting.
