Cascades Region Reviews Two Years of Public Initiatives on Accountability Day

Banfora: The governor of the Cascades region, Florent Badabou¨ Bazi©, who also serves as the president of the regional special delegation, presented a detailed account of activities undertaken in 2023 and 2024 during an accountability day event. This event, held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, in Banfora, revolved around the theme: ‘Duty of accountability, factor of citizen mobilization around public actions’.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the special delegation for the Cascades region, which was established in 2022, found it necessary to update the region’s population on the initiatives implemented over the last two years. In 2023, more than 500 million FCFA was invested, followed by over 300 million FCFA in 2024. The funds were allocated to various sectors, including education, healthcare, access to drinking water, construction for peace efforts, and the development of rural roads.

The regional special delegation has undertaken several projects to benefit the people of Cascades, such as building health centers and schools, drilling boreholes, and providing equipment like mattresses for health centers and tables and benches for schools. These projects were in response to the needs expressed by the population and were aligned with the programming of the Regional Development Plan (PRD).

Yacouba Barro, president of the special delegation of the Commune of Banfora, expressed his appreciation for hosting the accountability day in his commune. “The results are positive, and it benefits the population. I would like to congratulate them for the work they have done and ask them to continue this momentum,” he remarked.

Florent Badabou¨ Bazi© highlighted that the accountability day serves to present the outcomes of the initiatives carried out in 2023 and 2024 and to collect feedback from the population. He emphasized the significance of this day as an opportunity to report on the regional council’s management in a spirit of accountability and citizen involvement.

Mr. Bazi© reiterated the administrative authorities’ commitment to the well-being of the population, emphasizing the importance of incorporating everyone’s suggestions to enhance regional public action. Participants of the event extended their gratitude and congratulations to the members of the regional special delegation for their efforts in improving living conditions across various municipalities.
