Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport Establishes Unit to Address Connecting Baggage Issues

CASABLANCA – Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca has recently established a coordination unit aimed at resolving issues related to the delivery of connecting baggage. This development comes in response to passenger complaints about lost luggage, as reported by the Moroccan Press Agency (MAP).

According to Burkina Information Agency, there have been recent disruptions in the handling of connecting baggage at Terminal 1 of the airport, which is primarily used by Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and its partner airlines. One incident involved a Burkinabè citizen, Gideon Vink, who expressed his frustration over the lack of communication from Royal Air Maroc regarding his lost luggage for over a week.

The disruptions are attributed to changes in the control system for connecting baggage, leading to significant delays in baggage delivery for transit passengers. In response to these issues, the airport, in collaboration with RAM and the National Airports Office (ONDA), has formed a coordination unit. This unit comprises various airport partners, including the Royal Gendarmerie, DGSN, and Customs, to expedite the processing of connecting baggage.

The action plan includes bolstering the staff of all stakeholders, particularly the handler and its subcontractors. This enhancement aims to operate new baggage sorting and control areas at Terminals 2 and 3. Additionally, efforts are being made to support and train the handler’s agents on the automatic baggage sorting system of Terminal 1.

ONDA and RAM have issued a statement reassuring affected passengers that their teams, in consultation with all partner stakeholders, are working diligently for the swift delivery of baggage to their destinations.
