Casablanca Hosts Inaugural African E-Sports Championships

CASABLANCA — The first-ever African eSports Championship officially commenced this Saturday in Casablanca, with events scheduled through August 21, 2024. This landmark event, hosted at the Mohammed V Sports Complex, marks the debut of the continent-wide competition, drawing top-tier athletes from across Africa.

According to Burkina Informational Agency, the African eSports Championship serves as the continent’s premier event in digital sports, boasting an impressive lineup of more than 180 competitors from 17 countries. These athletes will contend in five distinct categories: CS2 Open, CS2 Women, MLBB Open, MLBB Women, and PubG Mobile. The event kicked off with a grand opening ceremony, setting the stage for what promises to be a fiercely competitive week of digital sports.

The African Digital Sports Confederation (ACDS), which plays a crucial role in the championship, aims to unify the continent’s eSports communities and foster international recognition. This event not only celebrates African talent in digital sports but also offers free entry to attendees, highlighting the accessible nature of eSports and its potential for widespread participation.

As the championship unfolds, it will not only determine the best in African eSports but also select qualifiers for the upcoming eSports World Championships in Riyadh this November. This significant event underscores the growth and potential of eSports within Africa, positioning the continent as a burgeoning hub for digital competition.
