Cardinal Otunga, Kisii School, and Kereri Girls to Compete in Nyanza Regional Games

MOSOCHO, Kenya — Cardinal Otunga High School, Kisii School, and Kereri Girls have qualified to represent their county at the upcoming Nyanza regional secondary school games. Their qualification comes after securing victories in the county-level competitions held over three days at Cardinal Otunga grounds in Mosocho town, with teams from across Kisii vying for a chance to compete at the regional level in Kisumu County from March 29 to April 3.



According to Kenya News Agency, Kisii School emerged victorious in the rugby 15s final, defeating Cardinal Otunga with a score of 28-3, securing their place alongside Cardinal Otunga at the regional games. Additionally, Nyabigena Boys secured the third position by defeating Rioma Secondary School 46-12 in the playoffs.



In the boys’ basketball category, Nyachwa Boys High School retained their title by overcoming Kisii School with a narrow victory of 50-46 points. Cardinal Otunga claimed the third spot by defeating Nyamache Boys 41-26 points. The boys’ hockey competition saw Cardinal Otunga defeating Nduru Boys 3-1, with both teams advancing to the regional games, while on the girls’ side, Kereri Girls and Amaiko Secondary School moved forward.



Furthermore, Cardinal Otunga also triumphed in boys’ handball, winning against Riondonyo Secondary School 5-2 in the finals, ensuring both teams’ participation in the regional competitions. Amaiko Secondary will represent the county in girls’ handball at the regionals.



The swimming competition, which is set to commence at the regional level, will be held this week at Aga Khan Academy in Kisumu County, adding another dimension to the breadth of sports talents being showcased at these games.
