The Mount View High School in Windhoek and the M&K Gertze High School in Rehoboth have each received donations from the Capricorn Group that include a selection of 200 Grade 10 and Grade 11 textbooks as well as a variety of stationery.
The donation is intended to provide these learners with access to educational resources as part of the group’s #Changemaker programme, giving them the best chance of academic success.
Capricorn Group Brand and Corporate Affairs Executive, Marlize Horn told Nampa on Wednesday that the sponsored textbooks cover three subjects for Grades 10 and 11; accounting, mathematics and economics while pens, exercise books, pencils, erasers, rulers, mathematical sets, calculators and printing paper were among the stationery supplies.
Horn said staff members additionally helped the business’s #Changemaker programme by contributing extra used textbooks and other educational supplies.
“Many Namibian high school learners started the year without textbooks, resorting to them sharing or copying down every word from shared textbooks to study at home. We believe that access to quality education is essential for the success of our communities and are proud to support M&K Gertze High School and Mount View High School,” she said.
Mount View High School principal Sean Möller welcomed the contributions.
“We are happy that the issue of the lack of textbooks in the areas of commerce and mathematics has been resolved. We interpret the donation as bettering academic performance by obtaining quality symbols,” he said.
Along with a lack of textbooks, the school also struggles with other issues like fencing around the property, an administration building, laboratories, a library and restrooms.
