Canadian TV’s Sangita Patel Commends Child Protection Progress During Kailahun Visit

Kenema: Canadian television personality Sangita Patel has praised efforts to support children and adolescents in Sierra Leone after visiting communities in Kailahun District: Last week, Patel traveled to Manowa, Follah, Pendembu, and Kailahun Township to observe Save the Children projects focused on child protection, girls' empowerment, and adolescent well-being. She took part in Girl Shine and Child and Adolescent Health Life Skills sessions, engaging with young people advocating for safety, education, and their rights.

According to Sierra Leone News Agency, Patel also spoke with caregivers and community members, listening to personal stories about challenges and progress in protecting children. Youth involved in the programs shared how the sessions have built their confidence, improved decision-making, and expanded their knowledge of health, rights, and future opportunities.

She later met with officials from the Ministries of Health, Education, and Gender and Children's Affairs. Discussions centered on joint efforts between government institutions and development partners to strengthen child protection systems and create safer environments, especially for girls.

In a social media post, Patel called the visit emotional and meaningful. She said the experience reminded her how community support and collective action drive positive change. She commended Save the Children for its continued commitment to vulnerable children and acknowledged that despite ongoing challenges, significant progress is being made.

Patel closed with a message reflecting her visit: 'Giving back heals you in ways that make your heart grow.'
