CAN U17: The Stallions Make a Clean Sweep in Group B

Casablanca: By beating the Amajimbos of South Africa 2-0 on Sunday evening at the Laarbi Zaouli stadium in Casablanca (Morocco), the Cadet Stallions of Burkina Faso finished as leaders of Group B of the U17 AFCON with three wins in as many outings. According to Burkina Information Agency, it was the objective of the Cadet Stallions of Burkina Faso to finish first in their group to be more comfortable for the rest of the competition. In this scenario, Burkina Faso will play the 2nd in Group A, which is none other than Zambia, who got the better of Uganda (2-1) in their last group match. Even though the South African team possessed the ball throughout the game, it was the strategic Burkina Faso team that won the match thanks to Issouf Bara (65th) and the inevitable Ashsaraf Loukman Tapsoba (89th). Having control of the ball, the young Bafana-Bafana players were unable to be clinical in front of goal, even missing a penalty in the 23rd minute. The Stallions ran on diesel, raising their game with 15 minutes le ft, leaving the South Africans physically worn out. Playing in a 4-3-3 formation, the Amajimbos were forced to allow themselves to be exposed in the final quarter of an hour by a Burkina Faso team that had found its rhythm. For Burkinabe coach Oscar Barro, "we had to prepare to suffer against technically sound South African players." For the rest of the competition, the Burkinabe coach reassures that the goal of winning the cup remains a priority. "We came to win the cup for the people," insisted Burkinabe midfielder Halidou Diakité. A team from the National Union of Stallion Supporters (UNSE), staff from the Burkina Faso Embassy in Morocco, led by Ambassador Mamadou Coulibaly, Burkinabe students in the beloved kingdom, and Burkinabe living in Morocco turned out in force to support the national team. "We wouldn't believe we were in Morocco. Thank you to the supporters who gave their voices to push their team to victory," coach Oscar Barro addressed the fans. With three wins in as many matches, Burkina Faso has taken full points (9 out of 9) with a goal average of plus 4. Oscar Barro's foals will remain at the Laarbi Zaouli stadium in Casablanca to face the young Zambians next Thursday at 5 p.m. (Morocco time) and 4 p.m. GMT, while South Africa will take on the Lion Cubs of Morocco. The U17 CAN will be played from March 30 to April 19, 2025, in Morocco.
