Swakopmund: The Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) has announced the official opening of its Palliative Care Namibia (PCN) unit in Swakopmund in the Erongo Region. The facility will open on Friday, 23 January 2026.
According to Namibia Press Agency, CAN Chief Executive Officer, Rolf Hansen, revealed in an interview that the 10-bed unit at the CAN Erongo Centre is now ready to provide services after the completion of construction, furnishing, and recruitment. He stated that all registrations, statutory approvals, and administrative processes have been concluded, marking a significant step in bringing essential palliative care to the community in Swakopmund.
Hansen emphasized that the development reflects the organisation's commitment to ensuring that individuals and families affected by cancer have access to care. He noted their dedication to a proactive approach in supporting those navigating a cancer diagnosis.
The announcement also mentioned plans for a new PCN facility in Windhoek West, with design and town planning already underway. Hansen indicated that the project will progress from January 2026 and will complement existing services at House Zietsman Care Facility in Klein Windhoek.
He expressed gratitude to programme partners and donors for their support in establishing the new unit and highlighted the importance of continued collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Services to make quality palliative care an accessible service across Namibia.
