Burkina: The Central Purchasing Center for Essential Generic Medicines and Medical Consumables (CAMEG) has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining the ISO 9001:2015 certification, becoming the first power station in the sub-region to reach this standard. This certification, valid for three years, was presented on June 27, 2024, marking a new chapter in CAMEG’s commitment to quality.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this certification by the British Standards Institution highlights CAMEG’s compliance with quality standards. The recertification process revealed 16 strengths, 6 opportunities for improvement, and no non-conformities, emphasizing the organization’s dedication to maintaining high-quality products. Dr. Robert Kargougou, the Minister of Health, praised the achievement, emphasizing that it reassures both the population and CAMEG’s technical and financial partners about the quality of health products offered.
Eric Tougouma, the General Director of CAMEG, expressed pride in this achievem
ent, which follows the transformation of CAMEG into a state company. He noted that the certification was the result of a rigorous audit of the organization’s quality management system, covering the supply, storage, and distribution of health products. Tougouma also reaffirmed the commitment of CAMEG and its team to uphold this quality standard to meet the healthcare expectations of the population effectively.
CAMEG, initially established as an association in 1992, was reconstituted as a state company following a Council of Ministers’ decision on March 27, 2024. Its mission remains to ensure the availability, accessibility, and quality of essential generic medicines and hospital pharmacy medicines across the national territory.
