Mumias: The Ministry of Education is being urged to accelerate the development of infrastructure and the hiring of teachers for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) to address the increasing demands of the educational system. This call to action highlights the pressing need for more classrooms and qualified educators to support the burgeoning number of JSS students.

According to Kenya News Agency, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa praised the government’s initiatives to support JSS students but stressed that further efforts are necessary. Speaking at Mumias Central Primary School, Governor Barasa highlighted the importance of expanding recruitment efforts for additional teachers and enhancing school facilities nationwide.

The appeal comes as the country continues to stabilize the JSS program, which has faced significant challenges since its implementation. Many schools are contending with overcrowded classrooms and a shortage of teachers, underscoring the urgent need for increased resources and infrastructure to
ensure effective learning environments for students.
