RABAT — The Council of African Information and Technology Agencies (CAITA) officially adopted its 2024-2025 strategic plan on Thursday, May 30, 2024. This significant development took place during the second edition of GITEX Africa Morocco 2024, an event that is fast becoming a pivotal platform for technological innovation on the African continent.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the strategic plan was ratified at the third meeting of CAITA, held on May 29, 2024, as part of the Smart Africa Alliance. The meeting saw the participation of 17 agencies and was pivotal for setting future directions in technology and digital development across Africa. CAITA, recognized as the fourth consultative body of Smart Africa, operates alongside the Council of ICT Ministers, the African Council of Regulators, and the Private Sector Forum. Its core mission includes developing recommendations for harmonized standards critical to implementing Smart Africa's initiatives.
Morocco, hosting this year's GITEX Africa, plays a crucial role within CAITA, underlined by the election of Mohammed Drissi Melyani, Director General of Morocco’s Digital Development Agency, as president of CAITA for a two-year term starting June 2023. His presidency marks Morocco's leadership in digital transformation and its effort to foster inter-African cooperation in ICT.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for member agencies to review progress on various projects aligned with Smart Africa's objectives and to outline the priorities for the upcoming year. The newly adopted strategic action plan aims to lay the foundation for a digitally connected Africa, leveraging information technology to boost socio-economic growth.
The significance of holding the CAITA meeting concurrently with GITEX Africa Morocco 2024 highlights the event's role as a critical gathering for discussing the digital sector's challenges and opportunities in Africa. The involvement of Morocco’s Digital Development Agency in organizing GITEX underscores its dedication to enhancing digital technology usage and nurturing innovative entrepreneurship in Morocco and across the continent.
