CAF Receives Record Media Accreditation Requests for Africa Cup of Nations 2023

Ouagadougou – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Saturday that it has received an unprecedented number of media accreditation requests for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023. The requests exceeded 5,000, marking a 90% increase from the 2021 edition held in Cameroon.

According to Burkina Information Agency, The media accreditation process, which concluded on November 24, 2023, saw applications from over 70 nationalities, reflecting the global interest in Africa’s premier football event. Due to the overwhelming demand and limited space, CAF implemented quotas for each country to ensure fair access.

CAF remains committed to fairness in the allocation process and the implementation of these quotas, balancing the need to accommodate as many media representatives as possible while protecting the rights of media holding broadcast rights. New guidelines will be introduced for non-rights holding media, including restrictions on filming and other activities to safeguard the interests of rights-holding broadcasters.

The quota system is structured as follows:

Host country: 30%

Participating countries: 35%

Regional (neighboring) countries: 10%

Rest of the world (countries): 25%

CAF is coordinating with all participating member associations to ensure equitable representation in the allocation of quotas for each country. Priority is also given to media agencies.

The CAN Ivory Coast 2023, set to take place from January 13 to February 11, is expected to draw significant global media attention, reflecting the growing stature of the event on the international sports calendar.
