Nairobi: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the postponement of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) initially scheduled to take place in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from February 1 to February 28, 2025, moving it to August 2025. CAF explained that additional time is necessary to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities meet the required standards to successfully host the event.
According to Burkina Information Agency, CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed gratitude towards the leaders of the host countries, President William Ruto of Kenya, President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, for their leadership and commitment. He acknowledged the significant progress in the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training grounds, hotels, hospitals, and other necessary infrastructure in these countries.
Dr. Motsepe also praised the ongoing efforts in improving football infrastructure and expressed confidence that the facilities would meet CAF’s standards. The draw for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship 2024 is scheduled to take place in Nairobi on January 15, 2025.
CAF will announce the exact start date for the championship in August 2025 in due course.
