Cabinet Secretary Ndung’u Commits to Fostering a Safe and Inclusive Digital Environment in Kenya


NAIROBI — Dr. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u, the new Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, has pledged to promote an inclusive, open, and secure digital space to spur economic development in Kenya.



According to Kenya News Agency, During her first meeting with department heads and CEOs of state corporations at the Ministry’s headquarters in Telposta Towers, Dr. Ndung’u expressed her commitment to enhancing Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) integration across various ministries to boost socio-economic growth. “The Ministry will also support other ministries on issues related to Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) so that citizens can use technology for socio-economic development,” she stated.



The Cabinet Secretary discussed her familiarity with the challenges and opportunities within the ministry, citing her previous involvement in drafting a master plan and policy. Dr. Ndung’u emphasized the importance of understanding the inner workings of the ministry and its associated agencies to effectively lead and innovate.



Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Prof. Edward Kisiang’ani, and Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui, also spoke at the meeting. Prof. Kisiang’ani urged department heads to be proactive in providing updates on their programs, while Eng. Tanui welcomed Dr. Ndung’u and assured her of the ministry’s support in achieving its goals and serving the Kenyan public.
