Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Petroleum Sets Sh15bn Earnings Target by 2024

Nairobi – Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Petroleum, Salim Mvurya, has announced plans to increase income in the mining sector. The information comes from the Kenya News Agency, following a meeting between the Cabinet Secretary and mining officers from various counties.

Mvurya aims to boost earnings from the current 3 billion shillings to 15 billion shillings by the year 2024. Smuggling of mineral products has been classified as an economic crime, with new plans in place to combat this issue.

Further, the Cabinet Secretary revealed that minerals will only be exported after value addition. A memorandum of understanding has been signed with the Government of Indonesia to enhance testing laboratories for this purpose. Mvurya was accompanied by the PS State Department for Mining, Mr. Elijah Mwangi, during the announcement.
