Cabinda Refinery Equipment Commissioning Nears Completion

Cabinda: A delegation from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas is currently in Cabinda, where they are overseeing the commissioning of equipment at the local refinery. This initiative marks the imminent start of petroleum derivatives production in the region.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Secretary of State for Petroleum and Gas, Jos© Alexandre Barroso, leads the delegation. Following a meeting with Cabinda's provincial governor, Suzana de Abreu, Barroso described the visit as a routine technical engagement aimed at collaborating with the contractors and operators of the Cabinda Refinery. This collaboration focuses on preparations for the first production phase of this crucial infrastructure.

Barroso also announced that the Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas is scheduled to visit Cabinda at the end of March. The minister's visit will further solidify plans and provide detailed information necessary for the commencement of refined petroleum products production at the refinery.

The delegation includes experts from the oil and gas sector, the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute, and Sonangol. Data from the ministry, cited by ANGOP, reveal that the refinery's tanks are filled with crude oil, with only minor technical adjustments needed for processing diesel, heavy fuel oil, and naphtha.

Inaugurated in September 2025 by President Joo Louren§o, the refinery boasts a refining capacity of 60,000 barrels of oil per day. The initial phase is set to process 30,000 barrels/day, symbolizing a significant stride in the country's energy sector post-independence. This development aligns with the government's strategy to enhance resource transformation, achieve energy sovereignty, and execute a strategic vision for the future.
