Butula Residents Encouraged to Join Cooperatives for Government Grants and Business Growth

BUTULA: The Butula Member of Parliament, Joseph Oyula, has called on local residents to join cooperative societies to access various grants and empowerment funds provided by national and county governments. During an event at Butula Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) grounds, where he disbursed Sh4 million Uwezo Fund to 20 groups, Oyula emphasized the importance of joining cooperatives for financial growth and poverty alleviation.

According to Kenya News Agency, the government offers numerous low-interest loans and grants, presenting a significant opportunity for residents to improve their economic status. He noted that many in Butula lag behind in accessing these funds due to a lack of awareness and fear of investment risks. The MP stressed the importance of financial literacy and announced plans for a grassroots campaign to educate the community on effective financial management, savings, and purposeful borrowing.

Highlighting the impact of climate change, Oyula also mentioned his leadership in a tree-planting campaign set for November 13, aiming to conserve water catchment areas and mitigate global warming effects. He further urged the government to support Butula’s agriculture sector, especially in producing groundnuts, sesame, and sunflower, by finding ready markets to motivate farmers.

The MP’s initiatives aim to bring about a transformative change in Butula by fostering financial literacy, environmental conservation, and agricultural development.
