Busia: Busia County Director of Medical Services, Janerose Ambuchi, has urged local residents to seek eye care services at Busia County Referral Hospital, Port Victoria, Khunyangu, and Kocholya Sub County hospitals instead of traveling to Sabatia Eye Hospital in Vihiga. Speaking during a stakeholders meeting in Busia, Ambuchi emphasized the capabilities of these facilities, which are supported by the Fred Hollows Foundation.

According to Kenya News Agency, Ambuchi highlighted the need for increased public awareness regarding the available eye care services within the county. She noted that many residents still travel to other health facilities in Tororo, Uganda, and Sabatia in Vihiga County for treatment. This situation underscores the importance of educating the public about the local options available to them.

Busia County Coordinator for Eye Care Solutions, Harriet Khavere, addressed the stakeholders, pointing out the relevance of collaboration among partners in response to rising statistics of eye-relat
ed cases from the previous year. Khavere advised residents with eye problems to avoid self-prescribed over-the-counter medications and traditional herbal remedies. She also stressed the importance of using protective eyewear during manual labor and maintaining a nutritious diet for better eye health.

The stakeholders concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to improving eye care awareness and accessibility throughout the county. They placed particular emphasis on preventive measures and early interventions to tackle the rising eye health issues in the region.
