Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachim Kyelem de Tambéla underscored the crucial role of digital technology in national development during the official opening ceremony of the 19th edition of Digital Week in Ouagadougou. Through the voice of the Minister of Digital Transition, Aminata Zerbo/Sabané, the Prime Minister emphasized that digital technology is a pivotal instrument for a nation's progress. According to Burkina Information Agency, the Prime Minister's message highlighted that Digital Week serves as a platform for experts to explore the impact of digital technologies on the financial sector, which is currently undergoing significant changes. He noted that these changes present both challenges and opportunities for growth and innovation. The theme for this year's Digital Week, 'Digital transformation and economic development: challenges of Fintech,' reflects the ongoing structural transformations driven by digital financial services from Fintech companies. The Prime Minister pointed out that technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and big data are revolutionizing financial services, tailoring them to meet the demands of a more discerning clientele. Through the Minister's address, the Prime Minister stressed the role of Fintechs as catalysts for financial inclusion, cost reduction for consumers and businesses, and transaction acceleration. He added that Fintechs offer opportunities for economic and social transformation by enhancing the accessibility of financial services, particularly for rural and vulnerable populations. This edition of Digital Week features Mali and Niger, members of the Alliance of Sahel States, as special guests. The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the collaborative efforts among digital players from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, praising their initiatives to integrate digital technology as a cornerstone of sovereignty, development, and resilience. Alhamadou Ag Ilyen, Mali's Minister of Communication, Digital Economy and Modernization of the A dministration, highlighted the participation of Mali in Digital Week as a testament to the strong relations and cooperation between Mali and Burkina Faso. Similarly, Niger's Minister of Communication, Posts and Digital Economy, Sidi Mohamed Raliou, recognized the potential of financial inclusion to foster wealth creation.
