OUAGADOUGOU: The release of five fighters held hostage in the Eastern region and two lawyers in Boucle du Mouhoun marks a significant victory for Burkina Faso’s fighting forces. This achievement coincides with the successful and incident-free organization of the Tour de Faso and the Ouagadougou International Crafts Fair (SIAO), showcasing the Burkinabe army’s enhanced efficiency and professionalism against armed bandits.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the months of September and October were particularly challenging for terrorists across several regions of the country. The AIB reported on November 7 that the Burkinabe army launched successful operations in the Eastern, Northern, Central-Northern, and Central-Eastern regions, resulting in the elimination of dozens of terrorists and the recovery of equipment. These advancements have enabled the resumption of administrative activities in previously impacted areas.
The lifting of the curfew in the Eastern region on November 11 and the resumption of th
e High Court of Tougan’s activities highlight the shifting dynamics in favor of the fighting forces. The rapid completion of a supply convoy from Titao, which previously took days, further demonstrates the military’s growing influence in these regions.
While these victories are significant, they also underscore the importance of collective efforts in consolidating gains against terrorism. The president, through the Minister of Security, urged livestock traders in Fada-N’Gourma and Pouytenga to contribute by establishing a system to detect stolen animals, thereby cutting off a source of terrorist financing.
The fight against terrorism requires vigilance at all levels of society. As the popular adage suggests, addressing internal issues is key to weakening external threats. By focusing on internal complicities, Burkina Faso stands a better chance of delivering a decisive blow to its enemies.
