Burkinabe Rice Production Enhanced with Optical Sorters.

Ouagadougou: The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, officially handed over twenty optical sorters to rice mills across Burkina Faso on Saturday, November 30. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of rice produced by local farmers in the country.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the National Office of Major Projects of Burkina (BN-GPB) facilitated the acquisition of these optical sorters as part of the Presidential Initiative for Agricultural Production and Food Self-Sufficiency. The equipment includes eight sorters capable of processing 3 tons of rice per hour and twelve with a capacity of 1.6 tons per hour, costing over 187 million FCFA excluding taxes.

Captain Ibrahim TRAORE expressed his hopes that the introduction of these sorters will eliminate the presence of stones in local rice, thereby improving its quality. During the symbolic handover, he conveyed his expectations for high-quality rice production to Amadou DICKO, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Agriculture, Animal a
nd Fisheries Resources.

Abdouramane Kadougoudiou KONATE, the Special Advisor to the Head of State in charge of agriculture, emphasized the significance of these latest-generation optical sorters. He urged beneficiaries to utilize the technology effectively to meet the demands of Burkinabe consumers for superior quality rice.

Seydou KONATE, president of the Hauts-Bassins rice innovation platform, highlighted the strategic importance of this development in Burkina Faso’s rice production. He expressed gratitude to the Head of State for this valuable contribution, viewing it as a pivotal step towards achieving food sovereignty in the country.
