OUAGADOUGOU: The executive secretary of the Cercle des chercheurs (CDC), Dr. Adama Ouédraogo, highlighted the underrecognition of research findings by Burkinabe researchers, emphasizing the need for greater popularization of their work. Speaking at the Joseph KI-Zerbo University during the CDC’s fourth general assembly, Dr. Ouédraogo addressed the challenges and aspirations of the research community in Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Ouédraogo expressed concerns over the visibility of research outcomes in Burkina Faso, asserting that despite significant findings and patents being developed in labs, they are not adequately publicized. “We have the impression that the Burkinabe researcher does not find, yet we really have results. The Burkinabe researcher is humble, otherwise when you enter the research laboratories, there are results and even patents but which are not made available to the public,” he said.

The CDC aims to foster the promotion of scientific research for sustainable
development and supports young researchers in enhancing their skills in research methodologies, scientific writing, and the use of digital simulation tools. Moreover, the association aids both public and private structures with expert advice and support, contributing to the improvement of basic social services including health and education by implementing innovative technologies.

Despite financial constraints, Dr. Ouédraogo reported that the CDC has successfully conducted about fifteen training sessions for young researchers and has been actively involved in the dissemination of research findings of its members who have completed their Master’s or Doctorate degrees.

The general assembly focused on the adoption of revised organizational texts and the formation of a new office. Key future initiatives include launching online training courses to expand reach within the country and efforts to acquire dedicated premises for the association.
