Burkinabè Press Highlights Diplomatic Engagements and Visit of Malian CNT President


OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso — This Wednesday, Burkinabè newspapers prominently covered the nation’s diplomatic activities, including a notable visit from Colonel Malick Diaw, President of the National Transition Council (CNT) of Mali, and interactions with the United Nations.



According to Burkina Information Agency, a leading private daily, Burkina Faso’s Transitional Legislative Assembly is hosting Colonel Malick Diaw from July 24 to 26, 2024. The visit aims to bolster bilateral parliamentary cooperation and explore the roles of the two countries within parliamentary bodies, as well as the potential for creating federal sessions of the parliaments of the AES countries.



Le Pays, another private daily, reports that this visit underscores the ongoing cooperation intended to strengthen the ties between the Burkinabè and Malian parliaments. Additionally, Colonel Diaw is set to sponsor the graduation of the 12th promotion at the Higher Institute of Civil Protection Studies (OSEPC).



On the diplomatic front, Burkinabè publications have also detailed a series of meetings between local leaders and international figures. Le Pays highlighted a visit by the President of Burkina Faso’s Constitutional Council, Me Barthélemy Kéré, to Nicaragua. This visit coincided with the 45th anniversary of Nicaragua’s Sandinista revolution and featured discussions with several Nicaraguan institutional leaders.



Further enhancing Burkina Faso’s international engagement, Le Pays also covered the working visit of the United Nations Deputy Secretary, Amina Mohamed. Mohamed was welcomed by the Burkinabè Minister in charge of Cooperation, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, with the visit focusing on understanding Burkina Faso’s current challenges to better tailor UN support and aid.



The state daily Sidwaya emphasized the UN’s intent to deepen its engagement with Burkina Faso, aiming to provide substantial support and assistance to the Burkinabè populace amidst ongoing national challenges.
