Burkinabe Journalists Tour Universities to Spotlight Research Achievements

OUAGADOUGOU — A group of fifteen journalists from Burkina Faso, including a representative from the Agence d’Information du Burkina (AIB), embarked on a week-long press caravan through the nation’s public universities to explore and report on current research developments. The tour, which runs from September 2 to 8, 2024, includes stops at Joseph Ki-Zerbo University in Ouagadougou, Norbert Zongo University in Koudougou, and Daniel Ouézzin Coulibaly University in Dédougou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, chief of staff of the Minister responsible for education, the initiative aims to enhance the visibility of academic research. While research centers often receive attention through targeted visibility actions, universities still have significant achievements that merit broader recognition. “In universities, there is still a lot of work to be promoted,” Nebié noted, emphasizing the importance of this caravan in boosting the visibility of academic efforts.

The journey began at the African Center of Excellence, Center for Training, Research and Expertise in Pharmaceutical Sciences (CEA-CFOREM) at Joseph Ki-Zerbo University. During these visits, journalists from the written press, online media, and audiovisual sectors are encouraged to engage with researchers and ask in-depth questions to better understand the scope and impact of the studies being conducted.
