Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe government has taken a decisive step in its fight against terrorism by freezing the assets of former president Paul Henri Sandaogo Damiba and 112 other individuals. This significant action was formalized through an order signed by the Minister of Economy, Dr. Aboubakar Nacanabo, targeting those accused of supporting terrorist activities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the order specifically names former Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Djibril Bassolé and Alpha Barry, alongside journalists Newton Ahmed Barry and Abdoulaye Barry, as part of the group whose assets have been frozen. The total number of affected parties stands at 114 individuals and two legal entities, with the sanctions set for a renewable period of six months.

The frozen assets measure is aimed at individuals accused of participating in or financing acts of terrorism. The list of those targeted includes a range of individuals, such as military officers, farmers, and livestock traders. Additionally, terrorists
from the Group to Support Islam and Muslims (GSIM) and the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS) have been identified as part of this sweeping action.
