Burkinabè Government Expropriates Horizon International College for Public Utility

Ouagadougou - In a significant move, the Burkinabè government expropriated the Horizon International College, a private educational institution, citing reasons of public utility. The operation took place on Wednesday, shifting the management of the college to the state's oversight.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the head of Burkinabe diplomacy, the government issued an expropriation decree placing the school under the supervision of the Ministry of National Education. The transition aims for a definitive transfer of the college's management to the Maarif Foundation. "It is a process that has been underway for several years and which will allow us to comply, as in several other countries in the sub-region, and to remain in line with the agreements we have made with Turkey," Traoré noted. He highlighted the move as a step to enhance cooperation with Turkey.

The Horizon International School Complex, established in 2003 by Turkish businessmen in Burkina Faso, operates as a secular and apolitical educational entity. The Turkish Maarif Foundation, set to take over the school, has a presence in about fifteen countries across Africa, including Burkina Faso.
