Burkinabè Football Federation Halts Northern League Elections

OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso — The Northern Regional Football League (LRFN) has been instructed by the appeals committee of the Burkinabè Football Federation (FBF) to suspend its election process initially set for Wednesday, July 24, 2024. This directive affects the election intended to establish a new governing body for regional football.

According to Burkina Information Agency, a notice was sent to all presidents of affiliated clubs announcing the suspension of the elective general assembly. The decision to halt the elections follows an appeal by former national team player Saïdou Mady Panandétiguiri, who is a candidate for the presidency of the LRFN. Panandétiguiri cited irregularities in the application file acceptance process and raised concerns about the impartiality of the individual who collected the candidate files, who is reportedly a member of both the Northern Football League office and the electoral commission.

The resolution of this appeal is highly anticipated by football enthusiasts in Naaba Kango, who are eager for revitalization within the sport’s regional governance.
