Burkinabe Director Appoline Traore Engages ISIS Students in Filmmaking Masterclass

Ouagadougou: Burkinabe director and producer Appoline Traore led a masterclass in Ouagadougou for students of the Higher Institute of Image and Sound (ISIS) and actors in Burkinabe cinema. The event was part of the first edition of the Faso Films Forum, organized by the Burkinabe Agency for Cinematography and Audiovisual (ABCA), aimed at facilitating exchanges between professionals in storytelling, screenwriting, and production.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the session began with Traore sharing her professional journey, followed by a screening of her 2003 film, Kounadi, a 49-minute medium-length fiction piece. The interactive session that ensued allowed participants to delve deeper into the film's content and the realities of a career in filmmaking.

Traore emphasized the importance of cultural roots in storytelling. She highlighted that Kounadi showcases Burkinab¨ culture and encouraged young filmmakers to explore their heritage. "To be able to present an image of Africa on screens, you have to know where you come from and who you are, in order to tell our stories the way we want to," she stated.

ABCA's Director General, Moussa Alex Sawadogo, expressed satisfaction with the event, acknowledging Traore's impact on Burkinabe and African cinema. He urged participants, particularly ISIS students, to exhibit patience and perseverance as they pursue their careers in the filmmaking industry.
