Ouagadougou: The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso, closely supported by his collaborators, chaired a significant videoconference meeting with the heads of Burkina Faso's diplomatic missions and consular posts in the Gulf countries. This meeting was convened to assess the situation of Burkinabe nationals amid the ongoing crisis in Iran.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting included discussions with diplomatic missions in Iran, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Kuwait. Under the guidance of the President and coordination by the Prime Minister, the meeting aimed to evaluate the current circumstances in the affected diplomatic jurisdictions and ensure the safety and welfare of Burkinabe nationals residing there.
The diplomatic missions are actively monitoring the situation, maintaining regular consultations with the host countries. In response to the alerts, missions in Tehran and Ankara have implemented safety measures for Burkinabe nationals, supported by local authorities. Despite internet outages, communication channels have been established to keep nationals informed and safe.
The Foreign Minister instructed ambassadors and consuls to convey the government's support and compassion to Burkinabe citizens in their jurisdictions. Minister Karamoko Jean Marie TRAORE emphasized the importance of showing solidarity with the communities during this challenging time.
Minister TRAORE, along with the Deputy Minister, praised the dedication of the diplomatic missions and consular posts for their management and care of Burkinabe nationals. They urged continued diligence and adherence to the safety guidelines provided by host countries, while also maintaining strong communication with the Burkinabe community.
Concluding the meeting, the Foreign Minister expressed hope for a resolution to the conflict, encouraging all parties to return to negotiations for peace.
