Burkinabè Diaspora in Togo Donates 3 Million FCFA to Support Peace Efforts in Burkina Faso

OUAGADOUGOU — The Burkinabè diaspora in Togo has contributed 3 million FCFA to Burkina Faso’s peace efforts, in a significant display of solidarity and support amid ongoing challenges in the country.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the donation was made on Tuesday in Ouagadougou by a delegation from the Communauté Solidarité des Burkinabè in Togo, which presented the funds to Ambassador Désiré Dieudonné Sougouri, the chief of staff to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabè Abroad. “We say back home in Burkina that if your country has difficulties, every citizen, everyone must put their hand in and make their contribution; we are not here but our hearts are with the President, with the government, and with the fighting forces. This is the spirit that guided us to make this gesture,” Mr. Adjari Yamba, a spokesperson for the delegation, explained.

Ambassador Sougouri acknowledged the diaspora’s contribution as a vital support to the government’s ongoing efforts against terrorism. He expressed gratitude to the donors, noting the visible impact of such contributions on the ground. “It is a saving gesture which somewhat relieves the government’s efforts in the fight against terrorism. Thanks to your donations, thanks to everything we have been able to accumulate, you must have seen the efforts being made on the ground. So, be our representatives to convey the government’s thanks to the entire Burkinabè community living in Togo,” Ambassador Sougouri stated.

Furthermore, Ambassador Sougouri encouraged the delegation to reassure the Burkinabè community in Togo that Burkina Faso is beginning to overcome its difficulties and is making significant strides towards eradicating terrorism, bolstered by the diaspora’s ongoing support.
