Burkinabè and Nigerien Armies Launch Successful Joint Anti-Terror Operations in Sahel

Sahel Region – On June 8, 2024, the Burkinabè and Nigerien forces conducted a coordinated assault against terrorist positions in the Sahel region, resulting in the elimination of numerous terrorists and the recovery of significant equipment. The operations, part of an ongoing effort to stabilize the region, also featured successful airstrikes in the Northern region that thwarted potential attacks.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the joint operation targeted a terrorist enclave in the Boenga area, leading to the recovery of a large stock of food products and other materials. On the same day, vigilant aerial surveillance detected a group of terrorists on motorcycles and a pick-up truck approaching Seguenega. The ensuing airstrikes neutralized some of the attackers and disrupted their plans, with only a few motorcycles managing to escape.

Further success was recorded in the abandoned farming hamlet of Bendogo in the North Centre, where air forces observed suspicious movements. The subsequent missile strike and ground assault resulted in the elimination of more terrorists and the seizure of additional resources.

These operations on June 8 followed similar successes earlier in the week. On June 7, forces ambushed terrorists between Bondoukuy and Koumana, neutralizing several and confiscating their equipment. The previous day, June 6, saw dual operations in Guessoum and Aboudjié, where troops engaged and overcame enemy forces, capturing war materials and further diminishing terrorist capabilities in the region.

The sustained military actions underscore the commitment of the Burkinabè and Nigerien armies to combating terrorism and restoring peace to the afflicted communities of the Sahel.
