Ouagadougou: On the occasion of World Theatre Day, celebrated every March 27, Burkinabe actors and choreographers Serges Aim© Coulibaly and Djibril Ouattara salute this ancient art that heals “the soul of the people” and “enlightens minds.”
According to Burkina Information Agency, Burkinabe choreographer and actor Serge Aim© Coulibaly stated that “since the dawn of time, theatre has been used as a tool to heal the soul of the people.” He emphasized the therapeutic role of theater, noting its ability to soothe and dream of a different world. Coulibaly emphasized the importance of theater as an “indispensable tool” for building stronger societies and wished everyone a Happy Theatre Day.
Burkinabe choreographer and actor Djibril Ouattara expressed similar sentiments, celebrating theater as an art that unites and enlightens. He described it as the “breath of speech” and the “mirror of passions,” highlighting its power to transcend borders and differences. Ouattara expressed hope that theater would continue to foster peace, love, and reason, serving as a sanctuary for these values.
World Theatre Day, organized by the International Theatre Institute, was first celebrated on March 27, 1962. It is an annual event to promote the performing arts and remind the world of the importance of theater and its potential.
