Istrana: Burkinab¨ women, members of the Association of Young Ladies and Girls of Treviso (AJDFT), celebrated International Women's Day on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in Istrana, in the province of Treviso, Italy. On this occasion, they commended the leadership of the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, stating that his commitment to the sovereignty and dignity of Burkina Faso contributes to strengthening the respect enjoyed by Burkinab¨ citizens abroad.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was held under the theme of encounter, dialogue, and cultures, bringing together several association leaders, personalities from the African diaspora, guests of honor from various backgrounds, as well as many Burkinab¨ nationals living in Italy. The president of the AJDFT, F©licit© Zigani, highlighted the celebration's aim to magnify the place of women in society while consolidating the bonds of fraternity between African communities established in Italy, particularly in Treviso.
The event also featured speeches from key figures. Aligueto Billa, president of the Treviso Solidarity Association, praised the resilience and determination of the women and encouraged them to continue their commitment to community development. The event's patron, Abdoulaye Ilboudo, paid tribute to women for their essential role in preserving family and cultural values.
Co-sponsor Adamou Yabr©, president of the Association of Burkinabe in Treviso, urged his compatriots to remain united around ideals of peace, solidarity, and development. Eveline Lenga, speaking on behalf of the event's patrons, urged the women to remain united and congratulated the organizers on the event's success, while Aminata Bologo praised the organizational skills of the Treviso women.
Participants at the event expressed pride in Burkina Faso's new international image, which they believe strengthens its standing in host countries. This sentiment was echoed by Sam Traor©, vice-delegate of the High Council of Burkinab¨ Abroad (HCBE) for the Triveneto region, who praised the initiative led by women in the diaspora and expressed hope for greater involvement from consular authorities.
The celebration included artistic performances, a parade of children in ethnic outfits from Burkina Faso, discussions on the status of women, and moments of fraternity between the different communities present, centered around local dishes. A women's football match, which served as a prelude to the celebration, took place at the Silea municipal pitch, with the mayor of Silea, Angela Trevisin, giving the kick-off. The match saw mothers pitted against daughters, with the latter emerging victorious.
The event concluded in a festive atmosphere, marked by sharing, conviviality, and the recognition of the role of Burkinab¨ women within the diaspora.
