Ouagadougou: Yacouba Traor©, a prominent figure in Burkinabe media and former general director of RTB, was laid to rest this afternoon at the Gounghin municipal cemetery. He passed away during the night of Saturday to Sunday, August 17, at Bogodogo Hospital in Ouagadougou. His funeral was attended by a large gathering of relatives, friends, colleagues, and many students.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Traor© was a significant influence in the media landscape, training multiple generations of journalists and communicators. He held key roles in communications, such as Director General of Radiodiffusion T©l©vision du Burkina (RTB) and Secretary General of the Institute of Sciences and Techniques of Information and Communication (ISTIC).
Pascal Yemboini Thiombiano, project manager at the Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, and a former collaborator, highlighted Traor©'s impact on national television. He made notable changes to national television series, especially with programs like Affaires publiques, which focused on issues related to Burkina and its administration, reducing airtime for telenovelas.
Traor© was instrumental in the creation of RTB2 in the region, promoting local information and 24-hour television broadcasting. He was recognized for mentoring young journalists and instilling values and ethics in journalism through his teachings and numerous books.
One of his students, Ifzou Kiemd©, an intern at ISTIC, expressed that Traor© was not just an educator but a father figure who offered advice and inspiration. Kiemd© noted that Traor©'s passion for television broadened his own horizons in media production.
