Burkina-United States Cooperation: Prime Minister Outlines Priorities to Ambassador Joann Lockard

Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ou©draogo granted an audience to the Ambassador of the United States of America to Burkina Faso, Joann Lockard, this Tuesday, January 14, 2025, in Ouagadougou. The priorities in the framework of bilateral relations between the two countries were at the heart of the discussions between the two personalities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Ambassador Joann Lockard discussed with Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ou©draogo the priorities of the Burkinabe government that the new American administration must take into account in the context of bilateral relations between the two countries. The Prime Minister emphasized security as the cornerstone of development, indicating that the Burkinabe government prioritizes the fight against terrorism and the affirmation of Burkina Faso's sovereignty. "We intend to impose respect for Burkina Faso, because the era of domination is forever over," he declared.

The Prime Minister assured Ambassador Lockard of his government's commitment to strengthening relations with partners who respect Burkina Faso's sovereignty and are willing to establish mutually beneficial bilateral relations. He invited the United States of America to engage in direct cooperation with Burkina Faso, asserting that the time of "private domain" is over.

Food sovereignty is also a focus for the Burkinabe government, with an agro-pastoral and fishing initiative aimed at achieving this goal. The executive plans to increase efforts to support production sectors and develop necessary infrastructure to bolster production in various sectors.

"We agree that the main goal is to create a Burkina Faso that is strong, independent, and stable. My country will collaborate with the government and support the Burkinabe people to achieve this common goal. We have worked to support the Burkinabe people for years and we will continue this effort," remarked Ambassador Lockard as she left the audience. She highlighted the longstanding and robust relations between Washington and Ouagadougou and expressed hope for continued diplomatic progress with the incoming American administration.
