Ouagadougou: The association ‘Let’s Save the Future of Our Children’ organized an experience-sharing session for around twenty leaders of the Koglweogo self-defense group, aimed at enhancing their ability to care for drug addicts. The event took place on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in Ouagadougou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the association, Marie Claire Tiendr©b©ogo, emphasized that the training is designed to coordinate efforts for improved care for drug users. She highlighted that the session aims to bolster the Koglweogo’s knowledge of basic skills necessary for tending to drug addicts, noting that many young individuals receive care through the group’s field work.

Tiendr©b©ogo also pointed out that the support for drug addicts involves emotional backing, as well as raising awareness and sensitizing parents. She remarked that the efforts of self-defense groups are often overlooked by the public, clarifying that the Koglweogo’s interventions extend beyond violence to include significant contributions to society through their drug rehabilitation initiatives.

During the session, psychosocial support specialist Clotilde Ou©draogo advocated for empathetic care, recommending that caregivers should listen attentively without judgment, and probe into the root causes of drug addiction. She also encouraged parents to maintain emotional availability for their children and to guide them to suitable support services if needed.

Madi Kabor©, president of the Koglweogo Rapid Intervention Group, stressed that their approach does not involve violence in drug-related cases, but rather focuses on raising awareness. He expressed gratitude for the association’s initiative, which will help them integrate crucial elements in combating youth drug use. Kabor© also urged parents to prioritize their children’s education.

The association “Let’s Save Our Children’s Future,” established in 2019, has committed to tackling drug use in schools as its primary objective.
