Ouagadougou: The Federation of Tourism and Hotel Employers’ Organizations of Burkina Faso is gearing up to host the 5th edition of the Ouagadougou Tourism, Hotel and Restaurant Showcase (VITHRO) from April 29 to May 3, 2025. This event aims to address the pressing need for adapting tourism strategies within the AES region, particularly in light of current security challenges.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Burkinabe Minister of Tourism, Gilbert Ou©draogo, emphasized that the theme of this year’s VITHRO, “What strategy to boost tourism in the AES area: challenges and perspectives?” reflects a commitment to reimagining tourism in a manner that is integrated, resilient, and united. The focus is on addressing the security crises affecting Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger while recognizing tourism as a significant avenue for hope, opportunity, and sustainable development.
Minister Ou©draogo urged stakeholders to adjust their offerings to align with the present circumstances, highlighting the importance of promoting the cultural identities of the AES countries. He also called for increased cooperation among member countries to consolidate efforts and resources.
VITHRO serves as a vital platform for strategic discussions and partnership building among sector stakeholders, noted the Minister. The president of the organizing committee, Pierre C©lestin Zoungrana, shared that the event is not only a platform for showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Ouagadougou but also a significant gathering for addressing the challenges faced by hoteliers, restaurateurs, and tourism professionals.
The event, which has been held annually since its inception in 2017, has established itself as a key event for promoting tourism potential. This year’s edition will feature Togo as the guest of honor, and the delegation’s president, Roger William Victorien Mensah, commended the initiative for fostering exchanges and enhancing synergies between tourism stakeholders across the sub-region.
