Burkina/Tour du Faso 2023: the clock for the 34th edition started

The starting point for the organization of the 34th edition of the Tour du Faso was launched Tuesday during a press conference in Ouagadougou by the ministry in charge of sports, after a year of suspension, it was noted.

11 countries have confirmed their participation in this 34th edition of the Tour, known as the ‘renaissance’. These are Mali, Ivory Coast, Niger, Cameroon, Algeria, Morocco, Benin, Guinea, Ghana, Rwanda, Belgium. The organizers are awaiting confirmation from South Africa to increase the number of participating countries to 12.

According to the Director General of Sports (DGS) Alexandre Yougbaré who chaired this press conference ‘the organization of such an activity in a context of reconquest of the entire territory of our country is a strong signal, in the eyes of the world entire “.

He alludes to the difficult security situation that Burkina Faso has been experiencing for more than 8 years “to the point that a certain opinion had said that Burkina Faso is no longer accessible.”

‘The
organization of the Tour du Faso 2023 will undermine these assertions,’ he insisted, mentioning that ‘from a sporting point of view, the holding of the 2023 Tour repeals our questions and concerns. The solid reputation, until now kept intact, remains so and always.’

The security situation in Burkina Faso forced the organizers to suspend the competition in 2022.

The Tour du Faso 2023, which will take place from October 26 to November 5, will pass through 8 cities in Burkina Faso in ten stages. It was the German rider Daniel Bichlmann who won the 33rd edition in 2021.
