Burkina: the government recalls the formal ban on selling alcohol to minors


The Ministry in charge of Commerce recalled that it is strictly prohibited to accept in a drinking establishment, a person under 18 years of age unaccompanied by an adult, and sell or give him alcoholic beverages.

“It has been noted that there is an increasingly excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages by the young segment of the population.



Anything that has harmful consequences on their health, their training and the future of our dear Nation.



To this end, the Ministry of Industrial Development, Trade, Crafts and Small and Medium Enterprises (MDICAPME) informs the population, particularly producers, importers, wholesalers and retailers, that it is formally “prohibited to sell or offer alcoholic beverages to a minor under 18 years of age.



Likewise, it is prohibited to receive a minor under 18 years of age unaccompanied by an adult in a drinking establishment.



Furthermore, the notice “prohibited from selling or offering alcohol to a minor under 18 years of age” must be displayed at the entrance to all drinking establishments from the date of signing of this press release. .



The competent services of the Ministry in charge of Commerce will carry out unannounced control operations regularly to ensure compliance with this measure.



Any offender is exposed to sanctions provided for by the texts in force in Burkina Faso. The Ministry in charge of Commerce invites the various stakeholders to strictly comply with the terms of this press release.
