Manga: The Burkinabe Association of Midwives and Midwives celebrated, on Friday, in Manga, in the Centre-South region, the 2025 edition of the International Day of the Midwife, under the theme “midwife, indispensable in every crisis.”

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, typically held on May 5th, took place on May 9th in the “city of the hawk.” The occasion highlighted the critical role of midwives in maternal and child health.

ABSF/M President Blanche Zoungrana emphasized the significance of this year’s theme for midwives and obstetricians in Burkina Faso. The ceremony, presided over by the Governor of the Centre-South, Yvette Nacoulma, underscored the essential contribution of midwives and obstetricians in achieving national health objectives. The governor called for collective gratitude to
wards these professionals, acknowledging their role during the ongoing security crisis to ensure the welfare of women and newborns.

Regional Health Director Anata Doro, through her representative, praised the multifaceted contributions of midwives, noting their roles as educators, advisors, and community mediators. She stressed the need for improved working conditions, safety guarantees, and ongoing training for these health workers.

Blanche Zoungrana urged the state and partners to invest in midwives by addressing existing challenges and involving them in decision-making processes. This, she argued, would enhance maternal and child health outcomes in Burkina Faso.
