Burkina Government Plans $15 Billion Fertilizer Production to Boost Agriculture

OUAGADOUGOU — In a significant move to enhance agricultural productivity, the Burkinabè government, along with its partners, is set to launch a 15.69 billion FCFA emergency mineral fertilizer production project.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the project is a collaborative effort funded by the Burkinabè State, the West African Development Bank (BOAD), and the Société d’exploitation des phosphates du Burkina (SEPB). The initiative aims to significantly increase the availability of quality fertilizers at competitive prices, thereby boosting agricultural output across the nation.

The report further details that the project’s primary objective is to ensure farmers have ample access to essential nutrients needed for crop cultivation. This strategic move is anticipated to play a crucial role in securing food supplies and stabilizing market prices in Burkina.

As the plan awaits final approval from the Transitional Legislative Assembly, stakeholders express optimism about its potential to transform the agricultural landscape in Burkina by addressing the critical need for efficient and affordable farming inputs.
