Burkina Government Launches Major Urban Residence Permit Initiative

OUAGADOUGOU — In a significant policy move, the government of Burkina Faso has approved the issuance of Urban Housing Permits (PUH) for 180,000 plot and housing buyers across the nation. This initiative, coordinated by 49 real estate developers, aims to streamline and regulate urban housing across eight key regions.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this initial phase targets 127 sites owned by the 49 developers. The beneficiaries of this scheme are spread across various regions, underlining the government's effort to address urban planning and housing challenges comprehensively. The Council of Ministers emphasized that this operation would enable buyers to formally obtain their PUHs, marking a crucial step in legalizing numerous informal settlements and ongoing real estate projects.

Minister of Housing Mikaïlou Sidibé commented on the necessity for these developers to comply with updated regulations to continue their projects. The government has also simplified the application process for the PUH to ensure a smoother transition for buyers into legalized housing status. A forthcoming list of authorized sites will provide further clarity and guidance to potential buyers and the general public, advising them to avoid transactions with unapproved entities in the meantime.
