Burkina Forces Thwart Major Terrorist Attack in Djibo, Destroy Militant Base in Boucle du Mouhoun

DJIBO — In a significant counterterrorism operation, Burkina Faso’s Combatant Forces successfully foiled a planned large-scale attack on the town of Djibo in the Sahel region, scheduled for July 6, 2024, while also dismantling a major terrorist base in the Boucle du Mouhoun region on July 8, 2024.

According to Burkina Information Agency, vigilant efforts by the 14th Combined Arms Regiment and aerial support units played a crucial role in averting the attack on Djibo. The terrorists, having realized that their plans were compromised, abandoned their assault and fled towards Nassoumbou. Following this, aerial units engaged and neutralized the terrorists as they retreated, effectively disrupting the planned attack.

The counterterrorism operations continued over several days. On July 5, after the initial disruption in Djibo, terrorists were pursued by air units beyond the Nassoumbou bridge, where a decisive airstrike was launched against the platoon’s leaders. Simultaneously, another terrorist group targeted a position in the Namsiguia VDP area near Ouahigouya, but they too were intercepted and struck down by a missile.

Further success was reported on July 8 when the Combatant Forces located and attacked a large terrorist base in Zanzaka, within the Boucle du Mouhoun region. This hidden base, situated under dense tree cover, was subjected to multiple airstrikes, culminating in the dropping of a powerful missile, which led to substantial casualties among the terrorist ranks.

These operations mark significant victories for Burkina Faso’s security forces in their ongoing battle against terrorism, underlining the effectiveness of their proactive and coordinated defense strategies in protecting civilians and maintaining regional stability.
