Bamako: As the guest of honor at the fifth edition of the International Handicrafts Fair of Mali (SIAMA), Burkina Faso has high ambitions for this sub-regional meeting dedicated to promoting artisanal know-how. Led by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts, Serge Gnaniodem Poda, the Burkinabe delegation includes about twenty administration officials as well as more than 100 artisans and artists who came to represent the diversity and creativity of national craftsmanship.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Director General of Crafts, Lydie Zongo/Sanon, emphasized the significance of Burkina Faso's participation in this edition. She highlights that SIAMA serves as a strategic platform to showcase Burkinabe crafts and celebrate the sector's vitality. Beyond the exhibition, Zongo/Sanon stressed the importance of regional cooperation, aiming to strengthen ties with Mali and Niger, the host country and fellow guest of honor, respectively.

One of the main objectives, according to her, remains to enable Burkinabe artisans to fully benefit from the event. The director general hopes that participants will do good business, forge strong partnerships, and benefit from fruitful exchanges with their counterparts in the sub-region. The 2025 edition of SIAMA, therefore, stands as an opportunity to boost professional networks and enhance the competitiveness of the sector.

In line with this vision, the Director General of the Chamber of Trades and Crafts of Burkina Faso, Fran§ois Ouedraogo, reiterated that the presence of his organization aligns with its core mission: supporting artisans in promoting their products and accessing markets. He underlines that events like SIAMA are crucial for the commercial visibility of handcrafted works, enabling creators to sell their products, showcase their expertise, and establish business contacts.

Ouedraogo commended the mobilization and achievements of Burkinabe artisans, whose active participation, according to him, demonstrates the sector's vitality. He also pointed out the value of the high-level panels in which the delegation participated, facilitating experience sharing between countries, identifying challenges, and proposing potential solutions to bolster the contribution of handicrafts to economic development.
