Ouagadougou — Burkina Faso's Action Plan for Stabilization and Development (PA-SD) achieved a significant execution rate of 73.4% in 2023, an improvement from the previous year's rate of 63.3%, according to the government's announcement on Wednesday evening in Ouagadougou. The report highlighted substantial achievements despite challenges in public action implementation.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Minister of State and government spokesperson, the advancements included the reorganization of the army, strengthening the numbers of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP), and enhancing their equipment. Additionally, the government conducted reconquest operations and facilitated the resettlement of state services and populations in several areas.
The PA-SD also incorporated controls and audits across ministries, projects, and programs, and spearheaded the creation of socio-economic infrastructures to support the stabilization and development of local economies. Despite these successes, the 2023 assessment pointed out several inadequacies, such as the slow pace of implementing certain reforms aimed at rebuilding and governance, executing socio-economic infrastructures, and securing investments.
The plan aims to secure the national territory, respond effectively to humanitarian crises, promote good governance and anti-corruption measures, undertake significant political, administrative, and institutional reforms, and foster national reconciliation and social cohesion, all while preparing for transparent and inclusive elections.
