Ouagadougou: As part of Operation WIBGA2, launched on April 28, 2026, to intensify the response against insecurity, the Toeghin gendarmerie, in collaboration with the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), seized a large quantity of pharmaceutical products, estimated at 2 million FCFA, AIB learned Tuesday from security sources. According to Burkina Information Agency, the National Gendarmerie reported that a joint patrol conducted with the VDP, on the night of Sunday, May 3, 2026, at around 3 a.m., led to the interception of a suspicious Toyota Corolla type vehicle on the road linking Ouagadougou to Tema-Bokin, in the province of Passore. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed a large quantity of prohibited pharmaceutical products, concealed in the trunk: antibiotics, painkillers, and various specialties, all without any regulatory authorization. Estimated at over 2,000,000 FCFA, this shipment was intended to supply clandestine circuits, with a proven risk of supporting criminal networks, or even armed terrorist groups operating in the north of the country. The main suspect, along with his two accomplices, were arrested and taken into custody on the instructions of the Public Prosecutor at the Ziniare High Court. The investigation is ongoing to identify and dismantle the entire network involved. The National Gendarmerie reaffirms its firm commitment to the fight against all forms of illicit trafficking and calls on the public for active collaboration.
