Ouagadougou: The Secretary General, Delwendé Maxime Tiendrebeogo, representing the Minister of Urban Planning and Housing, Mikaïlou Sidibé, has chaired a pivotal workshop focused on the validation of the National Strategy for Urban Reconfiguration (SNRU). This strategy is set to significantly enhance basic social services and urban facilities across Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the SNRU aims to bolster the presence of the State in urban areas by improving the delivery of essential goods and services. Delwendé Maxime Tiendrebeogo emphasized that the strategy will not only enhance basic social services and urban facilities but also strengthen security through a comprehensive network of security services that addresses the security challenges faced by urban centers.
Maxime Tiendrebeogo highlighted ongoing actions aligned with urban reconfiguration goals, mentioning initiatives such as the construction of 50,000 housing units under the Burukina Faso Deenw ka soow program, which promote
s urban densification. Additionally, the Pro-Rest-Apur program targets the restructuring of spontaneous housing areas and clearing urban land to eliminate informal settlements, while the urban development program (PDU) aims to enhance the urbanity of cities.
The Secretary General further explained that the strategy’s responses are designed to accommodate the need for space reconfiguration from planning tools to the realization of planned developments. A special focus is placed on increasing the level of equipment and resilience in cities, recognizing them as critical engines of economic development.
Urban development stakeholders will engage in thematic groups focusing on ‘urban planning’ and ‘housing and urban development’ to refine the strategy’s implementation, ensuring it is effective, efficient, and adaptable to changing needs.
