OUAGADOUGOU – The Superior Council of Communication (CSC) in Burkina Faso responded to accusations of media muzzling by clarifying that its recent actions were part of a “rigorous reframing” process.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the regulatory body’s goal is to promote and develop freedom of expression through structured oversight, not to restrict it.
Speaking on public television, Ouédraogo explained, “One of our missions is precisely to promote freedom of expression and even to develop the media. This is a misinterpretation. I guess it’s because we don’t know exactly what’s going on. In general, for freedom of expression to be expressed in its fullness, it is necessary to reframe. This is why the Constitution provided for a regulatory body like this.” He added that the CSC ensures that each decision follows a rigorous process and gains consensus before implementation.
